HOW the STATE of VERMONT PLANS to LOWER its CARBON FOOTPRINT
1. Reduce total energy consumption per capita by 50% by 2025, and by more than 1/3 by 2050
2. Meet 25% of the remaining energy need from renewable sources by 2025, 40% by 2035, and 90% by 2050
3. By 2025: 10% renewable transportation, 30% renewable buildings, 67% renewable electric power
Reduce transportation energy demand through smart land use.
Shift transportation away from single-occupancy vehicles.
Electrify and increase the efficiency of light-duty vehicles.
Increase the efficiency of heavy-duty vehicles and power them with renewable fuels.
HOW ARE WE DOING?
A chart showing how much carbon we emitted for various sectors over time, shows that we missed our 2012 target and have a lot of catch-up to do in lowering greenhouse gases (GHGs) to our 2028 goal. Note the large proportion of GHGs emitted from transportation.
